Sony Targets Custom PS3 Firmware with DMCA Takedown Notices
Lawsuits were apparently just the beginning, arsenic Sony attempts to bring up backbone the PS3 from hackers and pirates.
Sony's lawyers have dispatched a takedown notice to the site Github – which gives multitude a platform for collaborative coding – demanding that it remove a number of files relating to creating custom firmware for the PS3. According to the notice, the named files violate the Digital Millenary Copyright Act.
The notice claimed that the files in dispute were unlawful because they either circumvent effective access controls, and/surgery copyright protection measures. The note said that the files were malign to Sony, and asked the site to remove them as quick A possible. Github's policy regarding DMCA claims is to absent the content and then obtain in touch with its Jehovah to give them the opportunity to prepare a suitable response. The lawyers issued the distinction on the 27th of January, and at the time of written material, all the files have been abstracted.
As with any online anti-piracy action, this International Relations and Security Network't going to stop people creating custom microcode for the PS3, but IT might slow them down for a patc. I wouldn't be flabbergasted if this was just the for the first time of many takedown notices that Sony sends unstylish in the coming months.
